Locally Known is located in Bowdoinham, Maine along the shore of the Merrymeeting Bay. It was started in 2008 by Ben Dobson, David Goldstein and Shimon Horowitz along with brother and sister Brook and Noah DeLorme, to address the need for significant access to local and regionally grown produce in the northeast.
Ben and Dave have been farming organically in Maine since 2007 and previously farmed in Massachusetts for Equinox Farm, a small specialized salad farm.
At Locally Known, our goal is to provide the east coast with readily available, regionally grown, organic produce.
We are supporting and establishing regional organic farms by creating a market and regional distribution network currently unavailable to New England's organic producers.
Our implementation of the highest quality and freshness standards distinguishes Locally Known in a market dependent on foods from outside the region.
Sustainability, environmental stewardship and social responsibility are the founding principles of company policy.
Maine has a strong history of small scale local organic agriculture. The Maine Organic Farmer's and Gardener's Association (MOFGA), founded in 1972 was the first organic certifier in America. Johnny's Selected Seeds was also founded in 1973 this time to supply small scale market gardeners with seeds for their organic farms and gardens. Now Maine is home to a plethora of small organic vegetable farms and organic dairy farms.
We are actively seeking other farmers in the state to supply the Locally Known label. Please visit our Farm with Us section for more information.
Locally Known is the first organic greens produce packager in the northeast offering New England farmers the access to larger retailers who require strict adherence to food safety regulations and state of the art processing capabilities.
